It's frustrating to hear people say that the A&R is dead. The art of A&Ring is still there but it’s just a new art and people don’t understand it. The A&R does so much and yet so many do so little. This list was made to give props to tastemakers who ought to be working at labels as A&Rs because they’re doing just as good if not better at the job than actual A&Rs are.

I work for AlLindstrom.com, a site that’s built around the music business. Our site isn't about being the first one to post new the new hot song. AlLindstorm.com cares about what’s happening in the business. That’s what we discuss every single day. We're paying attention to tastemakers and we’re having these debates amongst the staff asking, "Who is the next executive we have to interview? Who’s the youngest in charge? Who’s the next artist that we gotta pay attention to?" To us, the music business is a lot more interesting than the music itself.

When I made this list, I made it from the perspective of someone that’s running a label and is thinking, ‘Why am I going to employ this person?’

I went to Full Sail University and got my bachelors in Entertainment Business. While I was in college, I met Al Lindstrom on Twitter. Al is a big time radio promoter whose been in the game for 20 years. He originally brought me on to his indie marketing company, ALMG. When I came up to New York, Al was moving to North Carolina, and he needed somebody to fill his shoes in New York, which is what I do now. If Al needs something in New York, whether it be going to labels and dealing with money issues or pitching records, I get it done. Through that we started the website.

I have a background in A&Ring. I interned and was assisting in the A&R department at Jive from 2009 to 2010. I currently work at Sirius Radio, I co-produce two radio shows. I’ve been doing Toca Tuesday for three years and recently started doing online content for Statik Selektah’s show. I also do bookings for those shows.

I’ve also been helping Just Blaze and pitching artists to him. I put Mac Miller and Just Blaze together, I got Blaze work with XV, and now I got him working with OnCue. Other than that, I am a partner for Governed By Loyalty Management along with Kei Henderson [Ed. Note—Kei Henderson works for the Complex Media Network as a Social Media Manager] and Eric Williams and I co-manage Two-9.

This list was made from the perspective of someone that’s running a label and is thinking, "Why am I going to employ this person?" Thank you to Zeke (@ZekielNFab5) and A-Plus (@A_Plus) who helped with some of the research behind this post. Time to break the A&R position down.
